 Building on Promise - So How Are the Children

One to one mentoring for 9th and 10th graders focused on a career interest.  The matches meet every week for about an hour.

 CommonBond Communities/Study Buddies
"Study Buddies" is a one-on-one academic mentoring program for kids living in CommonBond federally subsidized housing. Pairs meet on site to do homework and other academic activities. Study Buddies encourage academic achievement through individual attention and relationship building. This is your chance to share life experiences with someone new and be surprised at what you'll learn, too!

 Girl Scout Council of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys
Girl Scouts is a dynamic and contemporary organization that prepares girls to seek and meet the challenges of our ever changing society. Through an informal, educational program, girls discover, connect and take action.Girl Scouts build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Girls can join at any time during the year by becoming an individual member, joining a troop, a special interest group, or attending summer camp.

 Northfield Mentoring Coalition

The Northfield Mentoring Coalition is committed to enhancing the emotional and social lives of youth through intentional and lasting connections with positive, caring adults. The Northfield Mentoring Coalition helps connect interested community volunteers with local youth through one of six local mentoring programs. The Coalition helps connect potential volunteers with the local programs that best match their interests and availability. Member agencies of the Northfield Mentoring Coalition include: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota, Building on Promise, Connected Kids, Mainstreet Mentors, Mother-Daughter Program, and Project Friendship.

 Northfield Public Schools-Connected Kids
Connected Kids is a school based mentoring initiative that pairs children in grades 3-8 with positive, caring adults from the community.  Connected Kids also pairs high school sophomore and juniors with middle school and elementary youth in a peer mentoring program.  Commitment is a minimum of one hour a week year-round.  Mentoring relationships include social, emotional, and academic components as well as e-mentoring.  Mentors are encouraged to move with their mentee as the youth transitions from grade school to middle school and/or middle school to high school.

Adults mentors are partnered with college students of color. They encourage the students in a service project with K-8th grade children, which is required in exchange for their college scholarship. Adult mentors also encourage the college students in their own studies.
